the famous Montreal deli Schwartz’s is the origin of Montreal steak seasoning. The story goes that, during the 1940s and 1950s, a Schwartz’s broilerman by the name of Morris “The Shadow” Sherman began adding the deli’s smoked meat pickling spices to his own rib and liver steaks. Soon the customers began asking for the same. Due to its popularity, it eventually became a norm in Montreal delis and steakhouses.
Of course we have upped the heat a little from the original recipe and made a few other changes to really bring the flavours home.
So many uses. Most people use it after a steak is cooked however it can be used as a dry rub as well
This is considered to be a Very MILD heat and mostly the heat comes from pepper corns
